Vivienne Pomfret

A passionate violinist at the diploma level and a proud music award holder, Vivienne Pomfret embodies the spirit of youth inspiring youth. In the summer of 2024, at the age of 14, after discovering that many underprivileged children were deprived of the opportunity to learn music and experience its transformative power, Vivienne initiated ‘Joined by Music’, driven by her desire to make a difference through the universal language that connects us all. Vivienne began recruiting her friends and inspiring many to join her mission to teach music to those who might not otherwise have the chance. By bringing together young musicians and eager learners, she created a community where everyone is ‘Joined by Music’. Through her leadership and dedication, Vivienne is not only sharing the gift of music but also fostering hope, resilience, and a lifelong love for the arts in the hearts of children. Vivienne was joined by Leanne and Max.

Leanne Cheng

At the age of 14, Leanne Cheng joined Vivienne at the inception of Joined by Music, bringing her own vibrant energy and musical talent to the team. As classmates and fellow musicians at the same school, Leanne and Vivienne share a deep bond rooted in their love for music and their commitment to making a difference.
Leanne is a versatile and accomplished musician, holding a Grade 7 certification in piano and a diploma in percussion. Her diverse skill set enriches our program, allowing her to connect with students on multiple levels. Leanne spends much of her time performing alongside Vivienne in concerts with the school sinfonia, showcasing their synergy and passion on stage.
Her dedication doesn’t stop at performance; Leanne is driven by the desire to share the joy of music with others. By collaborating with Joined by Music, she helps provide underprivileged children with the opportunity to explore and embrace music, just as she has. Leanne believes that music is a universal language that can inspire hope, build confidence, and foster community.
Leanne’s enthusiasm and commitment are instrumental in advancing our mission. She exemplifies our core values of hope, courage, and being a catalyst for positive change. Through her efforts, she inspires both her peers and the young musicians she mentors to pursue their passions and give back to the community.

Max Lee

Max Lee is an accomplished violist and violinist who has been playing the violin for over 11 years and has performed with orchestras since he was 9 years old. His extensive experience makes him a meticulous teacher, introducing innovative exercises and techniques that inspire and challenge his students.
In August 2024, just two months after the inception of Joined by Music, Max became a vital part of our team. Max is joined by Ken, and together they stepped up to lead classes when Vivienne returned to the UK for school. Captivated by the initiative’s mission, Max eagerly embraced the opportunity to teach underprivileged children, giving them the chance to learn a new instrument and discover the joy of music.
Max’s dedication goes beyond instruction; he believes deeply in the transformative power of music education. By sharing his passion and skills, he strives to make a lasting impact on the lives of his students, nurturing their talents and fostering a lifelong love for music. His commitment exemplifies our core values of hope, courage, and being a catalyst for positive change within the community.

Our music directors are the creative architects of our program. Ken, Jerry, Max, and Ryan bring diverse expertise and a deep understanding of music to design immersive experiences that captivate our students. They ensure each lesson is not just educational but also inspiring, fostering a profound connection between the children and the music they learn.

Maegan Lee

Maegan Lee, 16 years’ old, is an accomplished young musician and an inspiring teacher with a passion for sharing the joy of music. Currently holding an LTCL in violin, Maegan has demonstrated exceptional talent as a leader in the Symphony Orchestra (Second Violin Leader), String Serenaders (Second Violin Leader), and as a representative for her school’s Tour Orchestra in Italy. Her love for ensemble performance extends to her contributions as a member of a string quartet.
In addition to her expertise in violin, Maegan is an accomplished vocalist, holding a Grade 8 certification in singing. She has represented her college choir on a tour in Italy and has been a member of the renowned Hong Kong Children’s Choir, earning three international choir awards. As a testament to her talent and dedication, Maegan is also a recipient of the prestigious music scholarship at CLC.
Currently, Maegan is performing an impressive repertoire that includes Spanish Dances Nos. 1 and 2, Mozart Violin Concerto No. 3, Bruch Violin Concerto (Movement 1), and Danse Macabre by Saint-Saëns.
Maegan chose to become a teacher after discovering the rewarding experience of performing for students over the summer. She loves working with children and teaching them music, finding it deeply fulfilling to inspire young minds to explore their musical potential. Her enthusiasm and dedication make her an invaluable member of the teaching team. Maegan is joined by Leah.

Max Chan

Max Chan is a seasoned violinist whose musical journey reflects over a decade of dedication and excellence. A former member of the Hong Kong Youth Symphony Orchestra and Hong Kong Youth Strings, Max currently shines as the first violinist of Amicis Sinfonia and serves as the concertmaster of the PLKNPL String Ensemble.
His talent has been recognized on competitive stages, winning the Hong Kong Youth Barclampory Music Festival in 2019 and securing second prize in the International Fringe Music Competition in 2020. These accolades speak to his skill, passion, and unwavering commitment to the art of music.
Max joined Joined by Music in February 2025, becoming an invaluable part of our mission to make music accessible to all children. Thanks to his initiative, a group of kids on the waitlist were able to start their first violin lessons at Onesky. 

Together with Ryan, Max leads a new class of beginners, approaching teaching with creativity and enthusiasm.
Believing that music should be a joyous and lifelong companion, Max strives to teach in a way that is both engaging and inspiring. He introduces innovative methods to ensure that children fall in love with music and embrace it forever. His ability to connect with students and make learning fun fosters an environment where young musicians can thrive.
Max’s dedication embodies our core values of hope, courage, and being a catalyst for positive change. By sharing his expertise and passion, he’s not just teaching violin—he’s igniting a spark that will enrich the lives of these children well beyond the classroom. His leadership and heartfelt approach make him a cherished member of our team and an inspiration to all. Max was joined by Ryan.

Ken chan

Ryan Wu

Ryan Wu is an accomplished violinist with over six years of orchestral experience and holds a diploma in violin performance. His extensive background enables him to communicate and collaborate effectively with students of diverse abilities, fostering an inclusive and supportive learning environment.

Ryan frequently performs alongside Jerry and Max, showcasing their shared enthusiasm and passion for music. Their performances not only highlight their individual talents but also their camaraderie and commitment to excellence.

In February 2025, Ryan joined *Joined by Music* together with Max Chan. Together, they started the second group class at *Onesky*, expanding our program to reach more aspiring young musicians. Their initiative allowed a new group of kids to begin their musical journey, providing opportunities that might have otherwise been out of reach.

Eager to gain more experience in teaching and to build stronger ties with low-income communities, Ryan approaches his role with compassion and dedication. He believes in the transformative power of music and is committed to helping children *fall in love with music and embrace it forever*. His creative teaching methods and genuine enthusiasm make learning enjoyable, inspiring students to explore their talents and express themselves confidently.

Ryan’s contribution is instrumental in advancing our mission to empower youth through music. His dedication not only enriches the lives of his students but also strengthens the bonds within our community. We’re proud to have Ryan as part of our team, and we’re excited to see the lasting impact he’ll continue to make.

Jerry Tsang

Jerry is a talented high school student with a passion for music and teaching. Since joining Joined by Music in January 2025, he has been an integral part of the program, co-teaching classes at the YMCA alongside Ms. Cindy.
An accomplished violinist with a Grade 8 certification in violin performance, Jerry believes deeply in the transformative power of music. His mission is to create a nurturing and inclusive environment where every student feels empowered to explore their musical abilities.
With a steadfast commitment to making music education accessible, Jerry strives to ensure that every child, regardless of their background, has the opportunity to learn, grow, and express themselves through the arts. His dedication and enthusiasm inspire both his students and peers, making him a valued member of the Joined by Music community.

Leah fong

Leah is the director of creatives and marketing at Joined by Music, she is in charged of anything and everything you see from the instagram, newsletters, campaigns and posters, as well as any creative needs Joined By Music has. She has been playing instruments since she was young and has a range of experiences regarding music as such, from playing the clarinet, piano, being in a choir and currently playing guitar. Leah has a passion for art and believes that the JBM initiative is extremely important, as it helps better foster children’s relationships with music, and helps provide opportunities for underprivileged students to have the chance to do the things she loves.

Ms. Cindy Chen

Ms. Cindy leads our teaching team with warmth and proficiency. As our Head Music Teacher, she combines technical excellence with a nurturing approach, guiding each child on their musical journey. Her dedication goes beyond teaching notes; she fosters confidence, resilience, and a lifelong love for music in every student.
Ms. Cindy Chen is a seasoned professional violin and viola teacher who brings a wealth of experience and a joyful spirit to our team. Joining us as a volunteer in November 2024 to teach a group of children at the YMCA, Cindy’s passion for music education has already made a profound impact on our community.
Ms. Cindy’s illustrious career includes serving as a violin coach for the Macau Youth Symphony Orchestra (Youth Group), teaching at the Hong Kong Yip’s Children’s Music Centre, and conducting the string orchestra at the Diocesan Girls’ Junior School. Her extensive background reflects her dedication to nurturing young talent and fostering a deep appreciation for music.
Her students have frequently won awards in competitions across mainland China and Hong Kong, a testament to her effective teaching methods and commitment to excellence. Many of her pupils have received music scholarships to prestigious UK institutions such as Eton College, Winchester College, and Cheltenham Ladies’ College. They’ve also been accepted into renowned conservatories like the Royal College of Music in the UK and the Hochschule für Musik Freiburg in Germany.
Currently, Ms. Cindy is a violin teacher at The Chinese University of Hong Kong, the string orchestra conductor at Marymount Secondary School, and she continues to inspire young musicians at her own Cindy Violin Studio. Her influence in the music community is expansive, underscoring her passion for teaching and her desire to make music accessible to all.
Ms. Cindy is joined by her long-time students, Jerry and Max, who share her vision and enthusiasm. Together, they lead classes with creativity and warmth, making every lesson an engaging experience.

Known for her fun and innovative teaching style, Ms. Cindy brings joy to every session. Children delight in how she uses fruits—like strawberries and apples—to help them remember steps on the violin. This playful method not only makes learning enjoyable but also instills a lasting love for music.

Her approach aligns perfectly with our mission to help children ‘fall in love with music and embrace it forever’. Ms. Cindy believes that music is a universal language that can uplift spirits, build resilience, and foster creativity. By teaching in a fun, supportive environment, she empowers her students to explore their talents and express themselves confidently.
